Warehouse Fire – November 17

On Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 16:04 hours, Lyons Fire was dispatched to a radio alarm from a passing CSX train reporting smoke showing from a large warehouse in the area of Shuler St. Engine 7, Truck 1 took the assignment under the direction of Chief Witt and Assistant Chief’s Darcangelis and Rios.

After a search of the Shuler St. area, Chief Witt radioed smoke showing at the old Nabisco Plant on Hill Rd. Chief Witt immediately requested a 2nd Alarm due to the potential fire load and the amount of smoke billowing out of the upper story windows. Due to the confusion with the address, the truck company ended up first in with a crew of 6. A water supply was established and two crews entered the building under the direction of Assistant Chief Darcangelis. The fire was located on the second floor and quickly extinguished. Additional crews arrived, checked for further extension, performed ventilation and laddered the structure. This fire proved to be difficult due to limited access to the fire floor and forced entry being needed.

The fire was declared under control at 17:02 hours bringing in the Wayne County Cause and Origin Team.

LFD was further assisted on location by the Lyons Town Ambulance and the Wayne Co Sheriff’s Department. The assignment was back in-service at 19:49 hours.
