Barn Fire – May 18

On Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 22:11 hours, Lyons Fire was dispatched to a reported barn fire located at 245 Route 14 in the Town of Lyons. This assignment under the direction of Chief Witt and Assistant Chiefs Darcangelis and Rios.

The first arriving Officer, Chief Witt, confirmed heavy smoke showing. Initial response was Engine Companies 3, 6, 7 and Rescue Co 3. After a size up, Command requested the Truck Co. for ventilation. Due to potential fire load and exposure issues, a 2nd Alarm was struck bringing in Newark FD’s RIT to the scene and Engine Co for fill-in along with a tanker from Oaks Corners, however Oaks Corners was canceled as the interior crews made a quick knock on the fire. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. No injuries were sustained.

The assignment went back in-service at 00:16 hours. The fire department was assisted on location by the Lyons Town Ambulance, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
